OECS to receive technical assistance from WIPO Featured

OECS Secretariat, Castries St. Lucia November 3nd, 2009: Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Member Countries are earmarked to receive technical assistance from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to assist in measuring the contribution of creative or copyright-based industries to economic activity in the OECS region. This will be the vital first step towards improving the policy framework and business environment for development of the region’s creative industries. For more information Click here.

Praise for CEMA AwardeesCamilo Antonio, UNIDO Consultant, praised the Cinematic & Entrepreneurship Motivation Awardees (CEMAwardees), “as an amazing bunch of creative artists who, with all that experience and credits, have displayed a remarkable humility to submit to benchmarking and to learn from each other with respect”.

He added that the CEMAwardees you have validated the initial terms of the UNIDO-CARICOM Initiative which have merged into a Partnership with regional institutions like the Caribbean Export Development Agency, the Office of Trade Negotiations (formerly the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery), the Errol Barrow Centre for the Creative Imagination and the Shridath Ramphal Centre at UWI, and the Caribbean Travelling Film School.

MY LIFE, MY RIGHTS

The deadline has been extended to Friday 23rd October 2009 for persons and groups wishing to submit entries for the UNICEF Youth Media Challenge 2009.

This is a challenge for young people 12-20 who are passionate about Children's Rights to produce a video/digital short under the theme "My Life, My Rights" using the Convention on the Rights of the Child for guidance, inspiration and information.

To help promote and stimulate creative industries in the Caribbean region, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has responded to initiatives by the CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) to pilot a system of Cinematic & Entrepreneurship Motivation Awards (CEMAs) to create CARIBFilm-DreamTeams.

UWI Makes a Creative Link Featured

The Caribbean region came one-step closer to creating a collaborative framework within the cultural/ creative industries, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services and the Caribbean Copyright Link (CCL) on Friday December 12, 2008.

With the signing of this agreement, the CCL becomes the first organization to partner with the Shridath Ramphal Centre and their outreach programme, the Caribbean Creative Industries Exchange (CIE).
