Ministers to discuss development impact of culture in Latin America and the Caribbean

Cultural ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean will gather at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to discuss how cultural policies and activities can help bring about economic and social development in the region.

The IDB 2010 Seminar on Culture and Development will be held by the IDB’s Cultural Center, with co-sponsorship by the Inter-American Culture and Development Foundation, on Tuesday, September 28 at the Bank headquarters in Washington, DC.

Bob Marley's Family Loses Court Battle Over Rights To His Songs

According to a report by Reuters, the family of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley has lost a lawsuit that would have given them sole rights to some of the icon's most celebrated recordings. Instead a U.S District Court awarded the recording rights of five Marley albums to Universal Music Group Recordings.

The top 10 living Jamaican artistes have amassed some US$90 million (J$7.7 billion) in net worth, equivalent to the annual export earnings from bauxite or sugar based on data from an online media report released last week.

World Bank Arts Program - Call for Submissions

The World Bank is pleased to announce the call for entries to participate in an exhibition of visual arts inspired by the idea of change, featuring artists from Latin America and the Caribbean region working in all media. This project is under the auspices of the World Bank Vice Presidency for Latin America and the Caribbean Region, the World Bank Art Program in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the Art Museum of the Americas, Organization of American States (OAS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.
