Creative Innovation

This fifth issue of the Caribbean Creatives, sponsored by the World Trade Organization (WTO) Chair, University of the West Indies, delves into the largely uncharted area of creative industries and innovation policy. Innovation policy has principally been focused on sectors like manufacturing and the agricultural sector. It is only in recent years that there has been a focus on the services sector. The composite and multilayered structure of the creative sector suggests that there is much scope for exploration.

Mapping the Creative Industries

The Shridath Ramphal Centre (SRC) is pleased to release the fourth edition of our emagazine Caribbean Creatives which is a publication of the Creative Industries Exchange (CIE) webportal (http://www.creativeindustriesexchange.com).This fourth issue of the Caribbean Creatives is sponsored by the University of the West Indies Chair for the World Trade Organization (WTO). It explores the rarely ventured area of the Creative Economy and its relationship to Intellectual Property as well as the key issues in data collection in the Creative Economy.

In this third issue of Caribbean Creatives, we are pleased to have the support of the International Trade Centre (ITC). This issue puts the spotlight on promoting the CARIFORUM creative industries and comes on the heels of a similarly named joint project by the ITC and the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) which focuses on promoting the CARIFORUM Creative Industries sector as a viable contributor to the export diversification and development of member countries.

This second issue of Caribbean Creatives, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA), puts the spotlight on the creative economy in Barbados.

Barbados is the first country profile to be done by Caribbean Creatives. The main objective is to capture some of the contemporary and salient features of the Barbadian creative economy and entrepreneurship.
